Solomon's Wisdom
King Solomon is famous for his wisdom. He was so wise that he reigned over God's people, and led the country to new heights after his father David died. He built the Temple as God directed. He knew all about the details of science, and he was inspired to write a book of wisdom that we call Proverbs. In fact, Solomon spoke thousands of proverbs and composed many songs of worship for the Lord. His wisdom was amazing. (I Kings 4:29,30.) God gave Solomon this wisdom, because he asked for it to be able to rule God's people well. Therefore, God gave him great insight and understanding as vast as the sand on the seashore. Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East and greater than the wisdom of Egypt. We can marvel at the wisdom of Solomon, but we need to learn something from what the Lord did for him that will help us today.
All wisdom comes from God, because He created everything in the universe. He alone had the wisdom to create it all out of nothing. He created each part of the universe well, so it all works together. God created truth, right and wrong, good and bad. He set up all of the absolutes that stand firm in His world. Then, God made us, so we could have a relationship with Him. Once we trust Jesus and come to know the Lord, we can talk with Him about anything we need. Just like Solomon, God will give us wisdom if we ask Him. (James 1:5) Yes, that is true. God gives wisdom to anyone who asks for it, and He gives it to us "generously." He doesn't just give us a little wisdom, because He wants us to ask, and He wants us to have the insights and understanding we need to do whatever He has for us to do. Therefore, we can have amazing wisdom like Solomon from the same Source, so we have not excuse for not being able to do God's will fully. He gave us His Word that contains His wisdom, and we have the Spirit to enlighten us. As we ask Him in prayer, He will show us whatever we need. What a blessing to have the wisdom of God for us today!
