Faith in God's Promises
God has had many promises to people ever since He created Adam and Eve. His Word is full of His promises that apply to everyone, to individuals, or to certain groups. God always keeps all of His promises. We can look in the Bible and see how God honored His promises. Therefore, the question for us is, "Do we believe God's promises?" Our belief or lack of it will determine whether we profit from God's promises or not. Joseph believed the promises of God. (Genesis 50:24,25) When it came time for him to die, Joseph announced his coming death to his brothers. Then, he assured them that God would come to their aid after he had died. He told his brothers that God would be sure to keep the promises He had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, so they could count on God giving them the land of Canaan, which He had promised to their forefathers. Then, when God made good on His promise, Joseph instructed them to carry his bones up from there and to the land of Canaan. See what I mean? Joseph completely trusted the promises of God, so he instructed the Israelites to take his bones with them when they left Egypt to go to Canaan. I pray we understand this type of faith in God's promises.
We are not to believe God's promises and go about our lives in the same way we would without them. We are to believe His promises to us in His Word, and then, change our lives to prepare for God to fulfill His promise. That is faith. Faith is not just believing something in our head. Faith is adjusting our life to match what God has said. Then, when God fulfills His promise, we are ready to enjoy His blessing. Do we believe heaven is real, and Jesus will come to take us to our heavenly home? If we do, we will be ready to go any minute, and we will be sharing the good news of the gospel with everyone around us, so they can trust Jesus and go to heaven, as well. See what I mean? We must do like Joseph and anticipate the goodness of God to do what He said, and we must make plans based on His promises to us. This is true for every promise we find in the Bible, and it gives us a correct way to plan out the rest of our lives to honor Jesus. I pray we will all have faith in the promises of God.
