In Wrath Remember Mercy

God does get angry at the sins of His people. All sin makes God angry, because He is holy, and He wants for us to be holy like Him. When we fail to live for Him, He has to pour out His wrath on us to get our attention. This happens to us sometimes, when we have been believers for a long time. We tend to slip away from God and go our own way. We begin to sin more and more when we drift. That is what happened to Israel in the Old Testament. The prophet Habakkuk saw what God was doing to His people. He had several questions for God. Then, he made a simple report and a prayer request. (Habakkuk 3:2) He told God that he had heard the report about God, and He feared Him. Then, He asked God to revive His work in Israel in the midst of the years. He asked God to show everyone that revival. Then, He concluded by asking for God to remember His mercy, even as He was in wrath. If we have drifted from the Lord, this is a great way to start back to Him.

God is great. He is holy. We must never forget the report about God in His Word. Because of His nature, we should fear Him with a healthy fear and respect for His power and what He could do to us. Then, in that spirit of fear, we should cry out to God to revive His work in us, even in the midst of the years of our drifting. We should cry out for God to remember mercy in His time of wrath. If we pray like this, we can know God will answer us, because He is a merciful God. He doesn't desire to destroy us, but to bless us. When He acts in mercy toward us, we are drawn back to Him, and things are the way they should have been all along.
