Being Ashamed of Jesus
If Jesus is our personal Lord and Savior, we will not be ashamed of Him or His words. We will be willing to let others know what He means to us. We will not hide our relationship with Jesus because He is the most important Person in our life. I know that is a strong statement, but I believe it to be very true. Yes, we all fail at times to stand up for Jesus, but if this is a regular occurrence in our life, we need to check out our salvation. Jesus made this very plain to His disciples and others. (Mark 8:38) Jesus was clear that whoever was ashamed of Him and His words in that adulterous and sinful generation, He would be ashamed of him when He came in the glory of His Father and His holy angels. In other words, Jesus would not claim that person as one of His own.
Our world needs to hear about Jesus and His words. We do not need to be rude or overbearing as Christians. However, we need to be very clear to those around us that Jesus is Lord. We need to make sure they know that His Word is true and inerrant. We must be willing to point them in the right direction, instead of being ashamed to speak of Him. Just think how the people of this world stand up for what they believe in. If they know we are believers, they expect us to love the Lord and speak up for Him. When we don't, it is a terrible sign that we do not really trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior, no matter what we say in church or at home.
