Rejecting God's Promises
There are many things that make God angry. Any kind of unbelief or sin makes God very angry. This is especially true when we, as believers, fail to believe what God clearly says to us. Sometimes, we are just hard headed, and other times we doubt His promises to us. That is what Moses did when God came to him and called him to go back to Egypt and deliver the children of Israel out of bondage. (Exodus 4:12,13) When Moses made the excuse that he was not eloquent, God promised to be with his mouth and to give him what he was to say to Pharaoh. Even with that powerful, gracious promise of God's help, Moses told God to send someone else. That made God angry, and it does the same thing today, when we fail to trust the promises of God.
Most of God's promises are recorded in His Word, the Bible. We have a great treasure of them throughout the whole Bible. Each one is to be believed and applied in our lives. Then, there are other promises that God gives directly to us, as we pray and seek Him in His Word. Those promises are just as real and even more personal. In either case we make God very angry when we doubt Him. The reason for His anger is our lack of faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6) The opposite is therefore true, so when we fail to have faith, as believers, we anger God. Faith is taking God at His Word. If we reject His promises, we are calling God a liar. I know that is strong language, but it is true. God is not a liar. Whatever He says, He will do. Whatever He promises, He will make sure it happens. Let's decide that we will receive God's promises, so that we please Him, and He can use us to do His will in His way.
