Darkness and Light
In the Bible we see over and over that darkness is associated with everything that is of Satan and the forces that are against God. Light, on the other hand, is the opposite of darkness, so it is connected with the Lord and all that is under His direction. This is more than symbolism. It is a reality in our world. Moses saw this reality when God called for the plague of darkness to be upon the land of Egypt for three days. (Exodus 10:22,23) God caused thick darkness to be upon the land so that none of the Egyptians saw each other during those days, and no one even left their home. However, there was light in the dwellings of the sons of Israel. God made a very dramatic point for them and for us by sending this plague.
Satan is the prince of darkness. He was cast out of the light of heaven, and sent down to earth. His eventual eternal abode is in the total darkness of Hell where neither he nor his demons will ever see anyone again, and that will be true of everyone who goes there with them for rejecting the Lord as they did. When God put our sins upon Jesus on the Cross, so He could pay our penalty and die for us, the world turned dark for three hours to show the darkness of all of those sins. Then, Jesus rose from the dead and ascended back to Heaven the place of eternal light. There is no need to sun or moon in Heaven because God is the Light, and He is always shining. Once we become a child of God, His light is in us continuously, so we can see His will and do it. Jesus is the Light of the World, the True Light, and we are the light of the world by reflecting His light every day. I pray we all dwell in the light of the Lord now and forever, and if we don't know Him yet, we will come out of darkness into marvelous light today.
