Stop Cursing God and Rulers

We have a bad habit of cursing whoever is in authority for the problems we are having. We want to blame those in charge and give them grief by what we say about them to others. Sometimes, we do that when we use profane language and rant against God or one of our rulers, but it can be just speaking badly about them and putting them down. Either way, we are not helping the problem. We are making it worse by our cursing. That is why God was very clear to the Israelites when He gave them His laws at Sinai. (Exodus 22:28) God commanded them and us not to curse God or a ruler of the people. I am afraid this is a huge problem for many of us, so we need to step back and think about what this means.

First of all, this does not mean that we can't get upset with God or a ruler. In God's case, He can take it, if you will simply go to Him and tell Him what is upsetting you. At the same time, we should pray that He would shows us why it is happening, or what we should be learning from the problem. Remember, God loves us, and as believers, He only allows us to go through things that will strengthen us, if we trust Him. Then, when it comes to rulers, we can disagree. We can let our frustrations be known to others, but it does no good to be disrespectful and curse them. In fact, it makes things worse. Look at how bad things have become in the United States with the way curses have been thrown around so freely for the past several years. As Christians, we need to lead the way in praying for our rulers and only speaking in a constructive way about those whom God has placed in authority. (Romans 13:1-8) The best way to solve problems is to be a part of the answer and not be a part of the problem. Let's take this command seriously and see what happens.
