Give Thanks to Jesus

Thanksgiving is a very important holiday, especially for believers. We take time to give thanks to God for all of our many blessings. It is so much more than just having a nice meal and being with family. We are truly blessed, and we owe all of our thanks to God, on Thanksgiving and every day of the year. However, if you really want to be specific, we owe our greatest debt of gratitude to Jesus. Paul made that abundantly clear in one of the greatest verses in the whole Word of God. (II Corinthians 8:9) Jesus is the more generous than anyone who ever lived. His generosity is beyond anything we can even imagine. Jesus had always been rich beyond imagination. Then, He gave all of that away for us. In one stroke Jesus became poor for us, and we became rich beyond our ability to imagine. For this we should stop and give thanks today.

Jesus is Eternal God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He owns it all. Then, one day the Father asked Jesus to leave Heaven and go to Earth and become a man, so He could save us from our sins. Jesus agreed readily, because of His great love for us. He left the riches of Heaven to be born in a cattle stall and laid in a manger for His bed. Why? He was born to a poor carpenter's wife, and He grew up in their home. He never owned property. He became poor, so He could be the Savior of all people by dying for us and rising again. He gave all of Heaven away for us. He became poor for a time, and He lost His life. That made us very rich, because He purchased our salvation from sin, and if we trust Him as Lord and Savior by grace through faith, we become joint-heirs of Heaven with Him. I pray we can all see why we need to stop and give thanks to Jesus today. Let's celebrate the generosity of Jesus!
