We are Rebuilding

We are starting a new sermon series today called "Let's Rebuild." We will study Nehemiah 1-9 during the 5 Sundays of May. Ezra was rebuilding the Temple. Nehemiah returned to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Now, we have to begin to rebuild what the threat of the Covid-19 virus has done to the church. Yes, we are following the guidelines of the governor and others, because we do not want anyone to become sick or die because of what we do. However, just like the people of Ezra's day said, "We are the servants of the God of the heavens and earth." (Ezra 5:11)  Ultimately, we must follow the Lord's leadership. The King of Persia had stopped the building of the Temple, but after the prophets spoke God's Word to the people, they started to rebuild again at His command. I am trying to make sure we follow the Lord, just like the people of Ezra's day did, because then, God will bless it well.

My question for the Lord is not so much "when" to rebuild what has been broken down, it is "how" to rebuild it. One thing is for sure. We must not simply go back to what we were doing before without asking God for His direction. We need to rebuild the church better than it was before. I think one way we do that is through the use of social media and cell phone technology. During this pandemic, we have tried to meet our needs for fellowship, corporate worship, and Bible study through digital means. It is not as good in many ways, but it does open doors for ministry and witness to those we were missing before. Therefore, we need to rebuild keeping those things as a part of our toolbox for the work of the Lord. That is just one example of some things I will be sharing in my message for worship today. I hope you will join in, listen carefully, and pray with me and our leaders about how to rebuild what has been torn down and move forward as a church family even better than before.
