God was Behind the Work
When we see something humanly impossible or very improbable happen, often it is proof that God was behind it. It is a great witness to unbelievers, and it gives God's people credibility with those who do not know the Lord. Just look at the book of Acts. There were so many miracles of all kinds that we done in God's power, and those things got the attention of the Jewish people. It was the same way in Nehemiah's day. When the wall was finished in 52 days, everyone could see it was an amazing accomplishment. The enemies we afraid of the Jews and lost their nerve. They knew that God was behind the work for this to happen. (Nehemiah 6:15,16) Why did this happen the way it did, and how can we see the same kinds of things? Let's consider how this applies to us.
We have already seen how one person, Nehemiah, was touched by God and sent by God to do a great work. It was not something he could do on his own. However, He believed God, and God did it through Him. We must be just as sensitive to what God is saying to us as he was. Then, we need to act with great passion in our hearts to do God's will, no matter what. We need to pray earnestly like he did for God's will to be done. After all, this was not his project, it was God's desire. When we submit to God's direction, He supplies what is needed to accomplish His work. Also, the people came together in unity. That is often a key part of seeing the impossible or improbable done. God can and does work through united hearts to do great things. Finally, the energy to do the work came from God as their hearts were set on the Lord. Therefore, we must do the work from pure hearts, set on God, and ready to be faithful, even under opposition. Then, God works in great ways in response to our trust in what He was led us to undertake. Let's pray for God to show us His will and do things like this today, so many people will see and come to Christ as Lord and Savior.
