Comparing Us and God
There is no way to compare us and God, except to say that we were all created in God's image. Yes, we can reason like God, and we can have relationships with others by communicating intelligently. We have a sense of eternity and strong emotions which animals do not have, because God put that in our hearts. However, that is as far as the comparison can go. We are in no way as intelligent or powerful or righteous as God. Job's friend, Eliphaz, brought that up in his response to Job's grief over his troubles. He knew Job was in anguish and suffering greatly, but he just had to point out that none of us are more righteous than God, nor are we purer than God. (Job 4:17) This point is a great starting point for all of us when we do not understand why God is doing something in our lives or in our world.
God is perfectly holy. He never sins. He never does the wrong thing in any situation, and He always does the right thing in every situation. He is completely righteous, so none of us even come close to being more righteous than God. We are all sinners. We fail all of the time by doing the wrong thing or failing to do the right thing. If we ever think that we are too righteous to have God send pain and suffering into our life, we need to stop and consider that God is completely righteous. Also, God is totally pure in His heart. His love is not mixed with anything impure. He loves us with unconditional, unselfish love. He always does what is best for us, even when it seems His actions may be mixed with wrong motives or wrong attitudes toward us. If we remember these two facts, we will be humble, and we will accept God's will for us. We will check to see if we are suffering because of our own sins. If so, we will confess them and repent of them. If the suffering comes, because God knows we need it, like it did for Job, we will willing accept it, watching to see how God wants to grow our relationship with Him. This helps us to face the storms of life well.
