God's Instruction Regarded as Something Strange?
God's Word, the Bible, is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. God inspired men by the Holy Spirit, so that they used their own words and culture to write down His words for us. Since God inspired them, we can know that these instructions come to us from our Infinite, Holy, and Loving God. He provided them, because He knows just what we need to have life and to live according to His design. Isn't it amazing that many people never read the Bible? Often, we do not try to learn instruction from it. We are like Israel in Hosea's day. We regard the instruction of God as something strange. (Hosea 8:12) God revealed to Hosea that this was one thing that led to their downfall. Could it be that it will lead to our demise as well?
Many people have told me that they do not know God's will for them. They say they read the Bible, but they can't understand it. Could it be that our attitude toward the Bible determines what we get out of reading it? I believe if we regard the Bible, God's instruction to us, as something strange, we will be unable to understand it because we will not think it is able to be understood. I am afraid many of us use that as an excuse for not reading and studying God's instructions. Today, there is simply no excuse for not knowing God's Word. We have so many modern translations. We have excellent commentaries on the Bible. We can listen to godly teachers explain God's Word to us on the Internet and in church. The problem is that we think it is strange, so we don't avail ourselves of any of these resources, many of which are free. This lack of Biblical knowledge leads to sin in our lives. It leads us to misconceptions about God's will. We go down the road to destruction as people, as churches, and as a nation, because we fail to heed God's clear instruction. I pray that we will not be guilty of neglecting to know God's Word, or of regarding it as something strange.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Hosea 9-11.
