He Did Not Waver
Consistency in life is very important. We gain much stability and strength by being consistent in doing the right things. This is especially true in spiritual matters. Spiritual strength grows as we do not waver in obeying the Lord. King Jotham of Judah is a great example of this. (II Chronicles 27:6) We do not know a lot about him, but what we know teaches us a valuable lesson.
Jotham followed in the footsteps of his father, Uzziah, the long time king of Judah. Uzziah was faithful to the Lord, until the end of his long reign when he was overcome by pride. He wavered in his commitment to the Lord, and God struck him with a terrible skin disease. However, his son did the right things like his father had done, but he did not waver in obeying the Lord. Therefore, God strengthened his position. In other words, God blessed his consistency, while all of the people around him were departing from the Lord. We live in a similar time, so we must determine that we will not waver in our obedience. Then, our spiritual strength and our position before the Lord will grow stronger all of the time because of God's favor on us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 28-30.
