The Inspiration of Scripture

It is amazing to consider how we got the Bible. It is not a human book, even though men wrote it down. Prophets like Jeremiah, and apostles like Paul, as well as other people were inspired to speak for God and to record what the Lord had shown them. (Jeremiah 36:32) In the process the Holy Spirit led them to write the very words of God, so that the Bible is without error in the originals, which were recorded in Hebrew and Greek. Now, we have copies, which the Lord preserved for us, and translations of the originals, so that we can all read His words in our own languages with understanding. What a mighty God we serve.

The Scripture was written for us because of God's great love and His desire to have a close relationship with us. It contains all we need to know Him and to do His will. That is why everyone needs to hear what it says. Sometimes, it has a very positive message of salvation, but sometimes, it is very convicting of sin and unrighteousness. That is why king Jehoiakim burned Jeremiah's scroll. He did not want to admit his sins and repent to do God's will. That is true of many people. However, we all have the choice to read the Word and trust the Lord, so that we go on to obey the Word and to be like Christ, as Lord and Savior. I pray that we all will treasure the Bible and know the Lord. That is the will of God for all of us, but we have to make that choice.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 37-39.
