Ministering with Song

From the very beginning of corporate worship the Lord led the leaders of His people to set aside those who would lead in music. They were not to simply lead music or sing music. It has always been much more than that. They were to minister with songs. (I Chronicles 6:32) That needs to be the mindset of any worship leader. They are ministers, and they minister through the songs they select and the way they present them to the congregation. There is ministry that can be done through music that can't be accomplished as well any other way.

I pray that we all have the right attitude about singing in our churches, too. We are not just singing songs we enjoy to sing, because we like the melody or the words. We are allowing the songs to minister to our hearts, so that we receive the message from the Lord. He speaks through the music and the words to get to our hearts, but we have to be ready to hear and to act on what He says. Hopefully those who minister in song complement those who minister through the spoken word, so that the message of the Lord goes forth in power to touch hearts. Then, it is up to all of us to obey what God has told us and apply it in our lives from that point.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 8-10.
