The Lord Will Provide

God taught Abraham a most valuable lesson, and we can all benefit from how the Lord taught him. God told him to sacrifice Issac, his son and the son of the covenant, as a burnt offering on the mountain which He would show Abraham. As far as we know Abraham did not hesitate to obey God and set out for that place the next morning. After getting all prepared to offer up his son, the angel of the Lord, stopped him, and told him that he had passed the test of faith the Lord was giving him, and the Lord provided a ram for the offering, instead of Issac. Then, Abraham named the place, "the Lord will provide." (Genesis 22:14) That is half of the story though. Let me tell you the rest.

Look at the end of the verse. It says, "On the mount of the Lord, it shall be provided." What does that mean? Yes, it refers to God providing the ram to Abraham, but I believe there is a future provision that is being referenced, too. The mount of the Lord where Abraham took Isaac is the same mount on which Jesus was crucified, because Jerusalem was built on Mount Moriah years later. This provision of the ram in Genesis 22 was the foreshadowing of God's provision of the Lamb of God for the sins of the whole world. Truly, on the mount of the Lord it shall be provided. God provided His only Son to die for all of us, and Jesus really died, because like Abraham, the Lord was willing to offer His only Son for us. Isn't God good?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 24-26.
