Unity in the Family of God
When we come to know Christ, we become family with all other disciples of Jesus. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. God intends for us to live in unity of mind and heart with our spiritual family members. In fact, unity in God's family is a good and pleasant thing for all of us, as believers. (Psalm 133:1) Let's take time to meditate on this unity we are to have.
Unity is good and pleasant for believers who dwell together. That means as we live together with other believers in the home, in the church, and in the community, we are to always strive to protect this unity of the family of God. It is only natural, since our God is One God who has eternally existed in three Persons, Father, Son, and Spirit. That is perfect unity on display. In John 17 Jesus prays for us, as believers, to be one as He and the Father are one. Therefore, that is God's will for all of us, and it is very good and pleasant for Christ and for us when we accomplish this in the power of the Spirit. Our unity is a proof of God's existence, the atonement of Christ, and the transforming power of the Spirit, without which true unity among people is impossible. It is a positive witness to unbelievers that Christianity is true, and they can know the Lord, too, and enter that unity. All of this should show us why unity is so important to the Lord and to us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 134-137.
