Noah Found Favor in the Eyes of the Lord
As we begin 2017, who is the main person you want to please this year? Of course, we think of family, friends, and our employer, but are they really the most important person to please? I don't think so. I believe we ought to seek to please God, first and foremost. Noah did just that. He found favor in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:8,9) That simply means that his life pleased God, so that God looked favorably on him and his family. The favor of God is essential to having a great year and a great life.
The Bible goes on to tell us why Noah found favor with God. There were three things. He was a righteous man. He trusted God by putting his faith in Him, and God saw his faith. In other words, Noah responded to God in faith, and that is where being right with God begins. Next, He was blameless in his time. That does not mean he was perfect. No human being can be perfect, but we can be blameless. That means we do the right things. Even when we sin and do the wrong things, we seek forgiveness, admitting our sins. That way no one can blame us for living a hypocritical life. Finally, Noah walked with God. Noah lived every day depending on God by living in a close relationship with Him. He was constantly speaking with God and listening to God, as he lived, so that he could know just what God wanted him to do and how to do it.
I believe this is a pattern for us all. If we do these things, we will also find favor in the eyes of the Lord, and He will bless us in many ways, as He did Noah and his family. Noah still had problems, but God was His constant Friend to help him through whatever came, and to show Him how to live righteously in this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 7-9.
