Guarding the Tree Of Life
God never intended to have to guard the way to the Tree of Life. It was His desire for Adam and Eve to eat from it and live forever in fellowship with Him. However, they chose to disobey Him and to eat from the one tree from which they were forbidden to eat. Then, their fellowship was broken, because Adam and Eve fell into sin. Also, their fallen, sinful nature would be passed to all generations. Therefore, God had no choice, but to guard the way to the Tree of Life, so they would not eat from it and live forever in their fallen state. (Genesis 3:22,24) This act of love shows us God's great desire to have fellowship with us for eternity.
Even though Adam and Eve sinned, God provided a way for their sins to be forgiven through animal sacrifices. I believe the clothes He made them out of the skins of animals were made when He instructed them in how to do these sacrifices. Also, those clothes reminded them all of the time that an innocent animal had to die to atone for their sin. Then, God drove them from the garden, not in anger, but in love. He wanted them to reestablish their fellowship with Him by trusting Him in faith once and for all, so they could live forever with Him in heaven. However, it took Jesus coming to die for all of the sins of the world, once for all, to open the way to the Tree of Life for all who trust Him. Once Jesus died, there was no more need for animal sacrifices.
I pray that we all will see how much God loves each of us and how much He desires close fellowship with us. If we will enter a personal relationship with Him by trusting Christ as Lord, we will experience life to the fullest. I pray that fellowship will be a reality for each of us every day of 2017.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 4-6.
