Arise and Go Up to Bethel
Bethel means "the house of God." Bethel is where Jacob met God in the day of his distress. Over 20 years later God called Jacob to go back to Bethel, and he did. (Genesis 35:2,3) I believe we can return to the place where we met the Lord Jesus or where we prayed in our distress, as a way of remembering what the Lord has done and strengthening our resolve to live for Him.
Have you ever been desperate for the Lord to deliver you? Can you remember how your heart bowed before the Lord Jesus in repentance and faith to trust Him as Lord and Savior? Sometimes it helps us to return to the physical place where these spiritual breakthroughs occurred. It jogs our memory. It shows the Lord we want to express our thanks and worship for what He did. However, we need to cleanse our hearts and prepare to meet the Holy God. We need to make sure that we are not worshiping the place, but the God of the place.
If you have never gone back to Bethel, I would challenge you to pray about it and do what the Lord says. It could be a highlight of your life on the way to heaven.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 36-38.
