The Greater Blessing
In many circles today Christians pray to be prosperous and to receive many financial blessings. It is even thought by some to be a sign of God's blessing on their lives. The problem with this belief is that it goes against what Jesus said. (Acts 20:35) Jesus made it plain to us that there is a greater blessing than receiving.
As believers, we are to support the weak, to care for those who are in need and hurting. The entire Bible makes that very clear. If we are focused on receiving great riches and being blessed by being prosperous, we could miss the greater blessing of which Jesus spoke. He said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." We must not doubt this or forget it. We must realize it is truth and practice giving.
Now, some believers give, but they do it selfishly. They do it to receive blessings back from God. This is not the proper motivation, so God can's bless that type of giving. We must give out of sincere love and concern for those around us. We must give to exhibit the love of Christ, so people will see Jesus in us. Then, we are more blessed than ever to see the impact this giving makes on those around us, whether it is family, friends, or co-workers. We are so blessed to think that God used us to meet a need and touch a heart.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Acts 23-25.
