Sin and Justification
Everyone has a fatal condition known as sin. We have all sinned, so that we are separated from God and His plan for our lives. However, God has provided the solution for our problem by means of justification. (Romans 3:23,24,28) Many people do not understand sin or justification, so this passage is essential for all of us.
Sin is falling short of the glory of God. In other words, it is failing in any way to do what is right and what is the perfect thing to do. Sin is not limited to breaking God's law or rebelling against His Lordship. Even if we do good, but we should have done better, that is a sin. Therefore, all have sinned, even those who never knew God's laws.
God knew this would happen, and He knew that working for our salvation from our sins was impossible, so He provided for us to be "justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Jesus paid for our sins and died in our place, so that our sins could be forgiven by God. That is His redemption. Then, God made forgiveness available to us as a free gift. All it takes is for us to trust in Christ as Lord, but it is not by the deeds of the law, at all. We realize we have sinned, we turn away from sin, trust Jesus, and ask Him to forgive us based on His redemptive work. Then, when He sees our sincere faith, He makes us justified, "just as if I'd" never sinned in the eyes of God. Then, He even gives us His righteousness as a gift, too. In this way we are adopted into God's family, and we have eternal life as one of His children.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Romans 4-6.
