Jesus' Top Two
Since believers are to be followers of Jesus, seeking to please Him in all we do, shouldn't we want to obey His top two things? I believe that is where we should start and where we should focus 24/7. (Matthew 22:37-39) Let's allow them to sink into our hearts deeply.
Do we love the Lord first and completely? That is the number one thing according to Jesus. Love is putting the other person first and seeking to know that person as well as possible, so we can meet his or her needs and please them in all we do. Jesus told us that we do this by loving the Lord with all of our heart, soul, and mind. Our heart is who we are on the inside. Our soul is our mind will, and emotions. Our mind is how we know all that we know. Since God made us with a heart, soul, and body, He knows that we can use each one to love Him supremely. That must be our top task each day, and if we love Him that way, we will gladly obey Him in every way.
The number two thing is very important, too. We are to love our neighbor or others, as we love ourselves. We are to make their needs a priority, as we want others to do for us. We are to be kind to them and seek their well-being while not being selfish for our own needs. In short, we love them, so we will serve them, not ourselves.
Those are the top two things Jesus expects from all of His children. How are you doing? If you are falling short, you are the only one who has the ability to change that. What will you do?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 23-25.
