God's Economy
God's way of keeping accounts is completely different from how banks and individuals do it. In His economy a withdrawal can turn into a higher balance, instead of depleting our resources. Also, a deposit can create a deficit. Jesus made that clear to us when He instructed His disciples. (Luke 18:29,30) Let's listen to what He told them and apply it in our lives.
In God's economy if we leave a house or other possession, or if we leave relatives for the sake of the Kingdom of God, we do not suffer a loss, but God makes sure that we have many times more than we would have had, if we had not followed His will for our lives. Then, if we forsake all to follow Him as Lord and Savior, we are assured of those same blessings, plus eternal life in the age to come. What a deal! We can't lose, as long as we trust Him and follow His will for our lives.
I think of those people who hesitate to trust Christ, because they will lose a job or family will turn against them. Jesus is saying that He will make sure they have much more than what they would have had if they did not follow Him. It may not be financial blessings, but it will be what really matters. The same is true for believers who are called to leave family or a job to carry out God's mission for their lives. They will not suffer a loss, but they will experience great gain.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 19-21.
