God Delights in Mercy
God is not only merciful, but He delights in mercy. (Micah 7:18) That is why He pardons iniquities and sometimes passes over the transgressions of His people. That is why His anger does not last forever. He delights in mercy. My question is though, "Do we delight in mercy?"
If there is anyone who could be strict and hold to the letter of the law every time, it is Holy God. He is perfect, and He has called on us, as believers, to be holy. Therefore, we might think He would be very quick to punish us. However, that is not the case. Many times we receive His grace, getting more than we deserve. Often, we receive His mercy, getting less punishment than we deserve. We should be even more gracious and merciful to others, because we are far from perfect ourselves. We should delight in mercy, because we want to be like Him, and we like to receive it ourselves. Let's consider our lives, and see if we delight in mercy, or if we take delight in being harsh and strict. Then, let's ask the Holy Spirit to empower us to delight in mercy.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Nahum 3 and Habakkuk 1-2.
