As Was His Custom
Most of us know the historical account of Daniel and the lions den. It is a fantastic miracle God worked for Daniel by sending the angel to protect him from the lions all night. However, how many of us know why God was inclined to save Daniel? I believe God delivered Daniel because he had something which he was accustomed to do every day. (Daniel 6:10) Do you remember what that was? It should be something all of us do.
Daniel was accustomed to praying 3 times a day in his upper room with his windows opened toward Jerusalem. This had been his practice since he was young, even before he was taken to Babylon. Because he had been faithful in his prayer life for all of these years, God was faithful to him. In fact, there is even more to it than that. Each time Daniel prayed he knelt down humbly before the Lord, and he not only prayed but he gave thanks to God. In other words, Daniel was talking to God and thanking Him for all of the answered prayers and the blessings He had poured out on him. His heart was right was he prayed, because he was humble and thankful. He was not demanding anything. He was enjoying time with His Lord, and he was recognizing that all he had came from God.
How often do you set aside times for prayer? What is your attitude when you pray? Is your prayer a conversation with God to know His will, or are you trying to get your own way? These are questions for all of us to seriously consider, if we want to walk with God like Daniel and enjoy the benefits of being close to Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Daniel 7-9.
