Confessing National Sins

As we stop to pray as individuals or groups today for the National Day of Prayer, we need to remember to confess the sins of America to the Lord. We see this in several places in the Bible. Nehemiah confessed the sins of his people, as Daniel did in his day. (Nehemiah 1:6) There will be no returning to God in America, until we are willing to admit our sins, confess them, and repent of them fully.

I know that we, as believers, are not guilty of the sins of our nation, for the most part. However, this is our country and our people. We are a member of a society that has failed to keep God's commands, so we must be willing to confess those sins sincerely, realizing we must take some of the responsibility, too. If Christians had been the salt and light we are commanded to be, we would not be in the situation, in which we find ourselves.

Therefore, I would make a list or at least, take time to consider the sins of our nation, so that specific confession can be made. (I John 1:9) God promises to answer true confession of sins and repentance. Therefore, they are part of the answer to our problems. However, we must also entreat the Lord to touch the hearts of many people, so that they may see Christ Jesus clearly and be saved, too. Then, we can see a great awakening in our land.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 2-5.
