The Ultimate Missionary
Jesus was the Ultimate Missionary. He left the perfection of Heaven to come to a sinful, fallen world. He not only had to adjust to a different culture, but He had to take on human flesh to be the God/Man to carry out His mission. He came to speak the language of the people and convey the truth of God by living it out. He was Love embodied. Then, when He rose from the dead, He met with His disciples, and He told them He was sending them out as the Father had sent Him. (John 20:21) The Ultimate Missionary sent us to carry out the mission of the Father to reach the lost in the same way that Jesus did.
People often do not understand the meaning of being a Christian. Believers are Christ followers, because we have trusted the Lord Jesus as our personal Lord. Therefore, to be a Christian is to become like Jesus in the power of the Spirit conforming us to His image and mission. The Spirit will change us when we are saved, but He will not force us to conform to the image of Christ. We must be willing. We must be willing to forsake the comforts of our culture and our friends to engage the world around us in all of its darkness, just like Jesus did. This is not a suggestion. It is a command, and it is a sin not to reach out as Jesus did. How are you doing in this area? The eternal destiny of billions of people in the world depends on us carrying out this command.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 21 and Acts 1-3.
