A Mind to Work

Nehemiah and the returned exiles found that building a wall around Jerusalem was hard work. However, they made good progress quickly, because the people had a mind to work.(Nehemiah 4:6) Building the kingdom of God is hard work, also, but if God's people have a mind to work, much can be accomplished in a relatively short time.

The work of the Lord can't be done in the flesh by determination. Prayer is doing God's work. In fact, until we have prayed, we can't really do anything else. However, prayer is hard work, as we praying in faith, persistently and according to God's will. Reaching people for Christ by being an everyday missionary where we live is work that can't be done in our own strength, but in the power of the Lord through His Spirit. It is hard work to put the Lord first and others ahead of ourselves, so that we are intentional about sharing the good news in a positive, relevant way. However, if we have a mind to work, it can be done, and God will bless it.

Do you have a mind to work?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 5-8.
