A Still Small Voice

God speaks to us in various ways. He is not limited in how He can communicate with His children. However, God often speaks in a still small voice like He did to Elijah on the mountain.(I Kings 19:11,12) We need to be ready to hear from God at any time.

We want God to shout at us and do miracles to get our attention. There is no doubt that He does both of those things when they are needed. However, God is our Father, and He desires for us to be attentive children. He desires for us to be focused in on Him so well that He can speak softly, and we respond immediately. Isn't that what every parent wants from their children?

If we are too busy and things are noisy all the time, we can miss the still small voice. We need to plan for daily times of silence, when we can sit and listen intently for the Lord to speak. As we make this a regular practice, we will hear His voice, and the more we hear it, the better we will be at discerning His voice from the other voices which call out to us. Remember, we can tell it is God speaking, because He will never contradict His written Word, and what He says will always be in line with His character.

What do you need this day before Easter? Stop and get quiet. Sit before the Lord with His Word, and see if He doesn't speak to you in that still small voice. Then, do what He says. He loves to speak to faithful, obedient children.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 20-22.
