Abraham's Test
Abraham passed one of the hardest tests God ever gave to anyone. He proved his fear of God by being willing to kill his son, Isaac.(Genesis 22:12) This story is both terrifying and heart-warming at the same time.
God had changed Abram's name to Abraham to show he and Sarah would have a son from whom a multitude would be born. Abraham had grown to love his son very much. Then, God clearly directed him to sacrifice Isaac to Him in a special place He would show him. Abraham was willing to kill his son through whom God was going to fulfill the covenant. We are not told of any hesitation or any questions from Abraham, only faith in God. Then, once he had tied up Isaac and placed him on the altar, he was ready to plunge the knife into his son, when God stopped him. He sacrificed a ram, instead. God proved that Abraham feared Him enough to pass this huge test.
I pray that God never asks us to sacrifice our children to Him as a test. However, we all have to pass the same test, because God wants to see if we fear Him, or if we put our children first, before Him. If we are not willing to put God first in all things, He can't bless us, as He did Abraham.(Genesis 22:15-18) After all, God was willing to do that for us. He sacrificed His Only-Begotten Son, Jesus, on the Cross for us. He did not hold Him back. He put our needs first, so we could be forgiven and have a relationship with Him. Think about it.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 24-26.
