Hearing, but not Doing the Word of God
It does not do us any good to hear the Word of God and then not to do it. In fact, it shows that we do not really love or trust the Lord, if we know what He wants us to do, but we do not do it.(Ezekiel 33:31) Let me explain.
When we love someone, we want to do what will make them happy or what we know they want us to do. It is not a burden to do it, either. We are happy to do it in love for them. It is true with the Lord. He wants us to do His Word. In fact, the Word tells us that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments, or keep His Word.
Also, as I have said many times, if we say we trust our doctor, but we do not do what the doctor tells us to do, then, we do not really trust him or her. If we trust the doctor, we will do what he or she says. It is really pretty simple, isn't it? The same is true for the Lord. If we do not do the Word of God, we do not trust Him, but we are trusting that we know better than He does.
In the end, if we do not do the Word of God, it shows that we are seeking our own gain, like Ezekiel said. We are doing what we want to do, and what we think will benefit us the most. However, that is very foolish, because all of the Words of God are given to us for our good. Doing the Word is much gain for us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 35-37.
