The Priority of Worship
Our worship of the Lord Jesus Christ must be our first priority, as believers. Everything else in life proceeds from our worship. The Jewish people who returned from the exile realized this principle of life. They started their worship of God first, even before the foundation of the temple was laid.(Ezra 3:6) They knew that they did not need a building to worship God, and they knew that it must come first before everything else. Let me explain a little.
Worship means "worthship." Worship is showing God how important He is to us. It is not just our singing. It must be the purpose for our singing. We must be telling Him how important He is to us, and praising Him for His perfection. However, there is much more to worship than singing. Worship is starting the day with the Lord, so that He knows He is first in our lives. Worship is praying for God to direct us and give us His power, since we can't do anything without Him. Worship is any time we do what God wants, because He is worthy of all of our time, energy, and devotion.
See what I mean? Worship is vital. If we do not make worship our priority, we will not do God's will. If we are not doing God's will, we are sinning. That is why worship must be our first priority all of the time, not just in the morning or on Sundays.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezra 6-8.
