Our Status with God
What is your status with God? We think about our status on
Facebook, but often we don’t think about our status with God, which is far more
important. Once we come to know Jesus, our status changes in a wonderful way.
We are adopted into the family of God, and we experience some radical
changes. Nehemiah was very conscious of
this status change when he considered God’s people in his day, too. (Nehemiah
1:10) Let’s consider what Nehemiah said about our status with God.
We are God’s servants and His people. Yes, we are adopted
into God’s family when we come to know the Lord. We are members of His family,
but He is always Lord, so we are always His servants, too. It is our privilege
to serve Him out of love. It is not a burden because we know He is our Father,
and He loves us more than we love ourselves. He wants what is best for us.
Therefore, we are obedient children of a gracious Heavenly Father.
We have been redeemed by His great power. We could not
forgive our own sins. We could not win our release from Satan’s clutches
without His payment. He bought us or redeemed us by the blood of Jesus. He is
the only One with the power to give that payment. His deliverance in Christ is
permanent. We are always saved because it is by His power and not by our own
power that we are transformed.
Finally, He redeemed us by His strong hand. His strength is
there for us, not just for salvation but for every day. It is His hand that
directs us and guides us, as a father guides his children with a strong hand of
love and nurture. God does not save us simply to prepare us for heaven. He
saves us to live every day in His power and to be victorious over this world.
So, when someone asks for your status, think about your
status with God. If you know Him, your daily status will be filled with the
peace and joy of knowing that everything is going to be fine, no matter what
happens that day.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 2-4.
