Prospering, Even in Prison

Prison does not have a positive connotation for most of us. However, did you know that the Lord can be with you and you can prosper, even in prison? That is exactly what happened to Joseph.(Genesis 39:23) In fact, the same was true when he was a slave in the house of Potiphar. God was with him, and everything he did prospered, so that even Potiphar's household was blessed, because of Joseph. This is a principle we all need to learn. We can prosper and be successful no matter where we find ourselves, if the Lord is with us.

Notice that this does not mean that everything was great for Joseph.  He still had to resist the advances of Potiphar's wife, until she finally lied about him, and he was put in prison. Also, while being in prison, he asked the butler of Pharaoh to remember him and to ask Pharaoh to release him, since he had done nothing wrong, but the butler forgot about him when he was restored to serving the king. Just because God is with us, we will not experience everything the way we want it. We have to be faithful to God no matter what happens, knowing that God is working all things in His timing, which is best. That is exactly what Joseph did.

Now, let me share one more thing from my Principles for Having the Good Life. Joseph was having the good life while being a slave and a prisoner, because he was being like Jesus, and God was blessing him with success in bad circumstances. The good life is not about where we are. It is not about pleasure. It is about having favor with God. When God is smiling on us, nothing else matters. We can have joy and peace anywhere and anytime. It all comes from having a right relationship with God. Relationships matter, and our relationship with God matters the most.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 41-43.
