A New Commandment
Jesus gave His disciples a new commandment at the last supper before He went out to be arrested and crucified.(John 13:34,35) I believe it is very significant. Love is to be the hallmark in the life of all of the disciples of Jesus.
Jesus commands us to love one another. I believe this means believers and non-believers, myself. Then, He takes it to a whole new level. We are commanded to love each other as He loves us. It is not simple brotherly love. It is unconditional agape love. This is possible because He resides in us, and He is love. If He lives through us, we will love as He loves.
This is how everyone will know we are His disciples, because it is impossible for others to love this way. It should be so evident that everyone will notice our love and be drawn to us and to Him. We will read more of this in a few chapters, but I would encourage us all to meditate on these verses all day, so that the Lord can show us how we are doing in the area of our love for others. It is vital!
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 14-16.
