The Lord Gives Wisdom
As we begin to read the book of Proverbs, I want to make one thing very clear. It is the Lord who gives wisdom.(Proverbs 2:6) You may have received some from listening to another person, but originally it came from God, if it is true wisdom. Let me explain.
Wisdom is not intelligence. It is not having a great deal of knowledge. Some people with high IQ's and a good memory for data, do not have much wisdom at all. Wisdom is seeing things from God's perspective. He is all-knowing, and He did not have a beginning. He designed and created all that is here. Therefore, He knows everything about everything, and He knows how it all works together. Also, He is leading everything to His conclusion, so He knows why things are happening, too. It is only when we hear from the Lord that we receive true wisdom because then we get it from the One who knows.
I think of it like an eagle flying above a mountain area. He can see over the mountain to the other side. He sees the big picture. However, with his excellent vision, he can see every detail on the ground, too. That is God's perspective. We are like an ant standing at the bottom of the hill looking up. We see very little, and we know even less. However, God is so good. He shows us His wisdom, and since He gave us a brain that can grasp it and store it, then, we can live according to His wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of anything we need.
I could go on and on, but realize that Solomon received more wisdom from God than any other human being in history. God inspired him to write Proverbs, so he could share it with us. We need to hear what God said to Solomon and to us in this book, if we are to have wisdom. I pray that you will read it and retain it, because it shows us God's way to understand what is happening today in our world and in our families.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 3-5.
