God's Purposes For Our Lives
God has a plan for every person who ever lives. He desires for all to come to know Him in a personal relationship. Then, He has a plan laid out for the rest of their lives to fulfill His purposes.(Ephesians 2:10) Therefore, what we do is to be for God's glory, and it should be a positive impact on the lives of those around us. Once we know Him, we are citizens in His kingdom, and we have work to do for our Lord.
Joseph told us one of the main purposes in his life in Genesis 45:7. He was sent by God to Egypt, so that his family could live through the famine. They were saved from the famine by a great deliverance. They were taken out of Egypt 400 years later by a great deliverance. All of this was preparation of a posterity. That means all of the generations that came from Jacob's family, which finally brought the Lord Jesus into the world by the virgin Mary. This was God's great plan for all people to be reconciled to Him by the death, burial, and resurrection of the perfect God/Man, Jesus Christ.
The point I want to share tonight is that we all need to be faithful to follow the Lord like Joseph was, so we can find our purposes for being a believer, and we need to obey God. If we don't we can miss God's purposes. They do not come automatically. We have a choice. God doesn't force any one to do His will. Joseph was not a robot for God. If he had disobeyed God, then, the Lord would have raised up someone else to be the deliverer for the family of Jacob. The same is true for us. We can miss God's purposes, and we can miss the blessings that come from being used by God to do great things, if we fail to trust Him. God's purposes always get fulfilled, but we have to be faithful through all of the trials and triumphs of life, so that He can lead us to accomplish His perfect will.
What are God's purposes for your life? Have you found the main purpose He has for you? Do you realize He has many smaller purposes, too, like being a good father, mother, wife, husband, or parent? Think of the impact we have on our children. Think of how the lives of Joseph's wife and children were changed because of their godly husband and father. No matter who we are, when we know the Lord Jesus, we are a child of the King, and He has something important for us to do. Let's fulfill His purposes and see His great deliverances for us and our posterity.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 47-49.
