Self Deception
As I read the passage in Ezekiel 28 about Lucifer's fall from being the most beautiful archangel who led the worship around God's throne to the most gruesome evil being named Satan, I was drawn to verse 17 this time. I knew that part of the process that led to Lucifer's sin was that he was lifted up with pride over his beauty. However, I had missed the part that says he "corrupted" his wisdom for the sake of his splendor. What a truth!
This explains how an archangel could rebel against God and think he should be worshiped like God. He deceived himself. He had heard all of God's wisdom as he ministered around the throne. However, once he started to feel pride over his splendor, he twisted the wisdom he had learned to fit his desires. I am afraid this happens to people all of the time. We call it rationalizing. However, whatever we might call it, it is self deception. It is talking ourselves into going against the truth of God's Word, so we can formulate a reason to do what we want.
God's Word is clear enough. We just need to stop trying to interpret it to fit what we want. We need to stop changing God's wisdom into our version of that wisdom. We must stop fooling ourselves into thinking that sin is not sin. If we do that, we are corrupting wisdom for our sake. It leads to destruction.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 31-33.
