What Are You Shooting For?
What do you want to accomplish in life? What is your vision of the perfect life? I hope you have put a lot of thought into those questions. If not, you probably don't have a specific direction in your life, and if you do, it may be the wrong one.
Many people are just doing their best to be happy and to survive. Well, what brings happiness? If you think money brings happiness, so you work to earn money, you will be very disappointed. Think about it. Happiness is the by-product of doing the right things in life. Maybe, you are just working hard to have food and shelter. Yes, we all need food and shelter, but that is not what makes for a good life.
We all need to realize that God is real. He is in control of His universe. He has set forth absolute truth, right and wrong, good and bad. He blesses those who follow His laws, and He has to punish those who break His laws, because He loves them, and He does not want them to miss the abundant life. The greatest goal in life is to know the Lord and to become like Jesus, because He is the perfect God-Man. He showed us what the best life was like while He was on earth.
Being like Jesus doesn't come naturally for anyone. However, when we submit to Him as our Lord and Savior, He empowers us by His Spirit to be like Him, because that is God's will for every believer.(Romans 8:29) Therefore, we should be trying to be like Jesus every day. Anything less is setting our sights too low. Anything less won't lead to the abundant life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 34-37.
