Earthquakes
God's timing is always impeccable. Our men were studying Luke 21:5-28 this past Monday morning as we resumed our regular Bible study. It is the passage in which Luke was inspired by the Holy Spirit to record what Jesus taught about the destruction of Jerusalem and His Second Coming to the earth. When you look closely, there are some remarkable prophecies that are being fulfilled now.
Verse 11 says that there will be "great earthquakes in various places." Yesterday in Colorado and today in Virginia there were two earthquakes of significant size. In fact, the one in Virginia was the second strongest on record, I believe. Of course, these two are just a drop in the bucket compared to the multiple quakes in Japan and the huge devastation in Haiti.
Verse 25 says there will be "distress of nations with perplexity." Has there ever been a better description of what is happening in our world today. It seem that economies are failing. People are revolting. However, no one knows the solution. They are perplexed to say the least.
Then, verse 25 has the clincher for me when it says "the sea and the waves roaring." That sounds like a tsunami to me, and we have had two recently that are of historic proportions.
Then, as I read Jeremiah I was struck by the fact that God sends His punishment upon those who reject His Word and His clear calls to repentance. He did it in Jeremiah's day, and He could be starting to do it today. We need to be ready for Jesus to return. It may or may not be in my lifetime, but it could be today. He is Lord of all creation, but He is waiting for you to bow before Him as Lord of your life. Then, Your sins can be forgiven, and you will be ready to meet your Lord when He calls us home.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 28-30.
