Candy Bar Evangelism
We have our Good News Club at the local elementary school on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30 to 4 PM. Today, we had our largest club of the year so far. We had 44 children. It was great to see the crowd, because we got off to a slow start this year. Most of the children we had at first were children we had last year. That is good, but the school is almost twice as big this year as it was last year. Our goal is to reach as many of the 700+ students as possible with the gospel. Therefore, the Lord laid it on my heart to personally give a candy bar to the ones who brought a new friend to the club. It has worked very well. There were 8 new children today. I call it candy bar evangelism. I think it is a very good deal to be able to share the gospel with a child who has never heard it for about 70 cents. What do you think?
We also do candy discipleship at our club. The children get a piece of candy for every memory verse they learn, and for completing 7 days of devotionals they get 2 pieces. What a deal! This even gets some of the parents involved in the reading and memorizing, too. It is a very inexpensive way to tell the world about Jesus.
Child Evangelism Fellowship has been writing the materials and training workers for many years. For a long time people had the clubs in their homes or in their yards. Now, the schools are open, so that gives an even greater mission field. The reason I mention that is that you can do Candy Bar evangelism, too. You could sponsor a club in your home for the neighborhood kids. Just think of how much influence you could have for the Lord on children who might not be able to go to church, because their parents won't take them. It only takes a little time and effort, but it has great rewards eternally.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Thessalonians 3 and I Timothy 1-2.
