The God of All Comfort
This evening in our prayer service we explored Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." I like to entertain questions from those who attend on Wednesdays. It gives us a very informal time to study God's Word by responding to the needs of the folks, instead of me just preparing what I think is best. We always have a great time.
Why does Jesus say that those who mourn are well off in God's eyes, or to put it another way, those who mourn have joy? The answer is that God is ready to comfort those who mourn. He is the God of all comfort. (II Corinthians 1:3-7) There is no need we can suffer for which He does not possess exactly the right type of comfort. His comfort is not to simply console us in our sadness. God's comfort brings hope, strength, and encouragement in the face of our pain and sorrow. Once He lifts us up, we have real joy, and we know what it is like to be touched by God.
I pray that each of you who are mourning over something right now will seek the Lord and all of His comfort, so you will find His lovely healing from your sorrow. Then, pass on his comfort to someone else around you who is mourning. You can be the tool to bring the comfort of the Lord to another needy soul.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Romans 11-13.
