Walking With God
I went to see a man in a nursing home this afternoon. He has had a lot of health problem because of not eating right and not exercising. He is very overweight, and he can't walk by himself. He was in the same nursing home last year for the same reason. He went home when he could walk up a flight of stairs twice by himself. Now, he is back in the same condition. He has to have a therapist work with him and walk with him until he builds his strength and his other health problems improve.
This reminds me that we all need to be able to walk spiritually. We need to eat right by consuming the meat of God's Word on a regular basis. We need to exercise by doing what His Word tells us to do. We need someone to walk with us to guide us and to keep us from falling. That Person is Jesus. We need to walk with Jesus all the time, though. We should never desire to walk by ourselves. However, once we can walk confidently with Jesus, we can do anything in His will, even what seems impossible to us.
I am praying for this man to be able to walk again and go home. Mostly, I am praying he will begin to walk with Jesus. Then, his whole life will be radically different. His family will be so much better, and he will be ready for eternity.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 22-25.
