Seminary Graduation

We are so glad to be able to attend our son-in-law, Jeff's, graduation from seminary. It is a great blessing for him, and he is a blessing to our family. Now, he will be able to relax and concentrate on his church planting ministry in Japan. We are praying for him and Lori as they prepare to return to Nagoya soon.

The service will be special for me for another reason. It was 31 years ago this weekend that I graduated from the same seminary in the same church. Lori was 6 weeks old, and Chris had her in the balcony. She was sitting with my parents. I can remember hearing her cry just a little bit. I am sure just being there will bring a flood of memories from so long ago.

Graduating from seminary is a milestone, but it represents a beginning in so many ways. God calls you to the full-time ministry, and you want to prepare yourself. When you graduate, you feel a sense of anticipation about what God will do in and through you. Jeff is getting started after 4 years of language school. He has a great desire to be used by God in Japan. I pray that he will have much success in sharing the gospel and starting churches. I can look back on 31 years of God's leadership. It has been a wonderful time of ministry with many ups and downs, but always a challenge.

We can graduate from seminary, but we never graduate from learning or from trusting the Lord each day. In reality it is all about presenting ourselves to Him and asking Him to use us in His kingdom. Then, we give Him all of the credit for everything we can do, because without Him we can do nothing.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 2-5.
