Family and Friends
It was fun to be able to hang out with family and friends this afternoon and have a graduation party for Jeff. It made me think about all of the relationships we have in our lives. God puts a premium on relationships. A lot of people just don't get it, but it is a part of being made in His image. If we do not have close relationships, we are not fulfilling what God intended for us.
Our family relationships should be the closest ones we have. That is why Mothers' Day and Fathers' day are so important. We must give honor to those family ties. It is so fantastic to have a loving mother and father, but it is such a tragedy when we don't. There is a big hole in our lives when we can't relate well to our family members, which includes brothers and sisters, too.
There are many times that we have friends that are closer than family. The book of Proverbs even affirms this truth. This is a great part of life. We find an individual with whom we connect in a very real way. We are true friends, and we can share in life together with joy.
The ultimate relationship is when we find the right husband or wife. We become soul mates. Two people are joined as one. We are joint-heirs of the grace of life. As I often say in the wedding ceremony, we share alike the joys and sorrows of life. There is no closer human relationship. It is even a picture of our relationship with Christ, as it says in Ephesians 5.
However, our greatest privilege is to know Christ and have an intimate love relationship with Him. The Lord of the universe wants to have a relationship with us. He cares about our every need. It is His desire for us to be full of His joy. He wants to fight our battles for us, and He rejoices in our victories. How fabulous is that! We are in God's family, when Jesus is our Lord. Then, we are family with everyone else who knows Him. We have a huge family all around the world. That is a lot of relationships. We may know know them here, but we will have eternity to get to know them in heaven.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 10-12.
