The Source of Depression
Over the years I have known many people who were very depressed, and I have been depressed myself a time or two. It is one of those things that happens to people. Since depression is is part of the grief process, most people experience depression when they lose a loved one or something very important to them like their health or a job. However, the reason for depression is fairly simple. It is the lack of hope. It is feeling hopeless about something or someone.
Satan is the master liar, and one of his lies is to convince people that their situation is hopeless. He tells them that their problem is worse than anyone else's problem. He tries to convince them that no one really cares. If he can do any of those things, depression is the result. We must not listen to Satan. We must listen to the God of all comfort, the God of Hope. Nothing is too hard for Him. Then, we can begin to pull out of the depression.
I have found that being secluded makes depression worse. It helps to be around other people. It helps to talk about your problem. Then, you can begin to see that things are not hopeless. You see that others have had similar problems, and they made it through them. God can use other people to bring His healing power into your life.
Therefore, don't let Satan tell you that all is lost. Don't ever let him rob you of your hope. Our hope comes from the Lord who made Heaven and Earth. He is the Eternal God, and He can do anything except the wrong thing. Look to Him and come out of the dark hole of depression. Then, help others overcome it, too.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 27-29 and II Corinthians 10.
