Delivering God's Word - Jonah and Revelation 10
God has chosen to use people to deliver His Word. Jonah is a good example. God communicated His Word to Jonah, and He told him to deliver His message to the people of Nineveh. Jonah did not want to deliver God's Word, so he went away from Nineveh. He did not obey God or care for the people of Nineveh. Therefore, God had to coerce Jonah by having him swallowed by the great fish. Even after Jonah delivered God's Word, he still did not care for the people. He was more concerned for his own comfort than the salvation of a large group of people. What a tragedy! All Jonah had to be was a caring messenger of God's Word, but he did all he could to get out of his responsibility. Let's not be too quick to judge Jonah, because the same is true for many Christians today. We know God's Word, but we run from those to whom God has sent us to deliver His Word. We do not even care for them enough to be a delivery person. We do not have to change them. The power is from God and His Word. All we have to do is to deliver it and let God do the rest.
In Revelation 10 John has a vision of a mighty angel with a little book and of seven thunders. We can only speculate about the exact meaning of these things, but one thing is clear. John was to receive the words on the book, digest them, and then, prophecy to many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings. He was to deliver God's Word as it was given to him. That is the same thing we are to do. We have God's Word, the Bible. We are to abide in it, and digest it, so we can deliver it to the people all around us, as God gives us opportunity. Again, we are just the messengers, but we must care enough to be obedient for the sake of those who need to be set free by the truth. What will we do today to deliver God's Word to those around us?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Micah 1-3 and Revelation 11.
