Trying to Hide from God - Amos 7-9 and Revelation 8
People are so funny. We think that if we do something in the dark, no one sees us. We think if we are by ourselves when we do something wrong that no one knows what we are doing. We have the false belief that we can conceal what we do. The truth is that we can't hide anything from God. It is the height of arrogance to think that we temporal humans can keep anything secret from eternal All-knowing God. We are self deceived if we think we can.
Amos makes it very clear that we can't hide from God or run from Him. Even if we dug to hell or ascended to heaven, He could find us. We can run, but we can't hide. Even the judgments in Revelation 8 show us that we can't escape from God's anger. Are you trying to hide from God or run from His presence? It is useless. Give up. Admit that you are sinful. Confess your sin and repent. The only way to live in peace without guilt is to come clean with God. Hiding from Him doesn't work.
One day each of us will stand before God, and the Bible says that we will have to give an account of our lives to Him. I believe that will include everything we have done, even those things we thought we hid. What will we say then? It will be a terrible thing to try to lie our way out or justify our sin. Instead, we should live all the time knowing God sees and knows. Then, we will be prepared for that Day.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Obadiah and Revelation 9.
