A Purified, Special People - Jeremiah 24-26 and Titus 2
God not only wants us to trust Him for our eternal salvation, but He wants us to trust Him each day, so that we live according to His design for our lives. His people are to be an example of what God can and will do for those who trust the Lord. Then, others can come to know Him, too.
Jeremiah had a very difficult time getting this truth across to the people of Judah. They took him out to kill him at one point. They were tired of hearing how God was going to destroy Jerusalem, because they had not listened to God's prophets, who were calling them back to the Lord. All Jeremiah was doing was sharing with them God's plan for them to be a special people and to be pure from the corruption of this world. They did not accept, and it led them to experience the wrath of God. For seventy years one group of people was in Babylon, until they were ready to turn back to God. The rest who stayed in the land of Judah were totally destroyed. This was what God had to do, so that they would turn back to Him and become that special people. God will make sure His ultimate will is done.
Titus was told to say the same things to the Christians in Crete. Paul told him to exhort all of the people to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age. God wanted His people to be purified from the filth of this world and to be zealous for good works. That was Titus' job. He, like Jeremiah, was God's mouthpiece to call God's people to holiness. People need to see a difference in us. By our fruits they will see that we are His. If we are like rotten figs, we will repel them instead of attract them to the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 27-29 and Titus 3.
